Ride for Rhinos 2022 was a challenge before it had even started. Having endured 2 years of travel restrictions due to Covid, it was rollercoaster effort to get all the riders out to South Africa for January 2022. The 2021 Ride had taken the form of a virtual event, so it was with huge relief and great excitement we welcomed 11 riders to Ant’s Nest Safari Lodge for the start of this annual charity event.

Waterberg Rhino has enjoyed huge support by you all over the past 12 months and we would like to share some of the good news, despite the difficulties facing everyone.

So it is fair to say that the installation of a completely new, operational digital radio system has transformed the lives of the rangers working in Atherstone Nature Reserve in the Waterberg.

As Covid-19 took hold in South Africa, schools were forced to close to help prevent the spread of virus. As a result, many children lost access to their only nutritious meal of the day. To support the community in the Waterberg and particularly those schools that have organised for children to come in for lunch,  Waterberg Rhino UK was pleased to be able to send funds to purchase apples and oranges and so supplement the Schools Feeding Scheme.

Africa captures people’s imagination perhaps more than other places. This magic can result in a lifelong love of this diverse and exciting continent with a constant yearning to go back. This is how I felt when I visited the Waterberg in 2007 for the first time. Too often, I am ready to return home from any travels but leaving on that first trip, I felt a massive wrench. We booked to return before we reached the airport.
